Everything you need to know about the Berlin wall's rise to fall: HISTORY

The most famous walls mentioned in history books are "The Wall of China", "Wailing Wall", "Shining Wall" and "Berlin Wall". The "Wall of Weeping" and the "Shining Wall" are known as holy places by Jews and Muslims respectively. The Great Wall of China was built two years before Christ by the then Chinese king as a wall to protect it from enemy attacks. Its length is said to be about twenty thousand kilometers.

The Berlin Wall has its own distinct identity. On the one hand, it lasted for 28 years as a symbol of the long period of the Cold War, on the other hand, it overnight separated East and West Germany. Before we can understand this division of Berlin, we need to take a look at its history of Berlin. Berlin in the Mirror of History: Berlin, part of history from the 13th century, was the capital of the Persian Empire from 1701, the German Empire from 1871 to 1918, and the Weimar Republic from 1919 to 1932 In 1920, the small towns and villages around Berlin were merged to  Weimar when  Adolf Hitler became ruler. As soon as the Nazi party came to power, all non-Aryans, including the Jews, were treated as inferior and given the impression of leaving. The Nazi Party gradually began to persecute non-Aryans, even after 1938, after the "Crystal Nakht" began to forcibly transfer Jews to concentration camps and allegedly massacred a large number of Jews.

Berlin was also hit by airstrikes during World War II. As a result, thousands of people fled East Berlin to West Berlin. After the end of World War II in 1945, at the peace conferences in Yalta and Potsdam, the Allies began to divide parts of defeated Germany. Led by the United States and the Soviet Union, Germany was divided into four main parts. The eastern part of the country became part of the Soviet Union, while the western part became part of the United States, Britain, and France. Under the same division, the city of Berlin was divided into four parts and remained the center of the Cold War for decades. During the Cold War, migration from East Berlin to West Berlin continued, mainly due to the "Berlin Wall".

Construction of the Berlin Wall: History books show that when Germany was divided into two parts in the 1950s and 1960s, the news came as lightning one morning in August when they saw Soviet-controlled East Germany. And a barbed wire fence between West Germany has effectively separated them. On August 13, 1961, the Communist government of East Germany began construction of the wall, although it said it was intended to prevent West fascists from entering East Germany and weakening the socialist state. It was to stop the mass exodus from Germany, which was moving to West Germany, fed up with the policies of the communist government.

The total length of this wall was 155 km but this wall continued to move forward step by step. The first phase begins in 1961 with barbed wire. The second phase is from 1962 to 1965 when these barbed wires had to be strengthened and secured. The third phase dates back to 1965 when a formal retaining wall was formally introduced and continued until 1975. The 4th phase began from 1957 to 1989. During this final phase, the three-and-a-half meter high concrete wall was regularly replaced with a border wall. To prevent illegal immigration through the wall, East Germany deployed about 12,000 bodyguards, who were instructed to immediately shoot anyone who climbed the illegal wall.
